Whitford to Wear Heels for YWCA Fundraiser
James Whitford’s job as the men’s basketball coach at Ball State typically calls for a couple different types of shoes. There are the athletic shoes he wears for practices and the dress shoes he dons on game days.
But a community event later this month in downtown Muncie will have him adorned in a totally different type of footwear — high heels.
Whitford is among a group of men from the Muncie community participating in the YWCA’s Put Yourself in Her Heels fundraiser Sept. 26 at Canan Commons. The event is designed to raise awareness and support for the YWCA’s Emergency Shelter and Transitional Resident Program for women and children.
“Domestic violence is an issue that impacts a lot of people,” Whitford said. “As men, we have a big responsibility to raise awareness, especially within our own community, to help find the right solutions for this real problem. I’m honored to be part of this event, and I hope everyone can show their support and help us raise money for a really good cause.”
Whitford’s players will also be on hand Sept. 26 at Canan Commons. They will be available for a meet and greet at 10 a.m. prior to the event.
The YWCA is accepting online donations for the event along with votes for the participants. Fans can cast a vote for Whitford and make a donation by clicking here.
